MONTICELLO—At 10:40 a.m. on Sunday, January 12, 2025, a Village of Monticello Police officer observed Jaimuj Tomlinson, age 21, of Monticello, walking on Broadway.
Tomlinson was wanted by Monticello Police on multiple charges in connection with a shots fired incident that occurred on September 13, 2024, at 7:50 p.m. on Spring Street. In that incident, Tomlinson fired at least 8 rounds from a 9mm handgun. Rounds fired by Tomlinson struck a residence and a parked vehicle but there were no reported injuries. An investigation of that incident resulted in Tomlinson being identified.
When officers approached Tomlinson and advised him he was under arrest, he ran. A foot pursuit then ensued with one officer deploying his Taser and successfully bringing Tomlinson to the ground.
While on the ground, Tomlinson continued to struggle with officers and tried to reach towards his waistband. After officers were able to secure Tomlinson in handcuffs, they recovered a loaded 9mm Glock handgun with a 30-round magazine from his waistband. The serial number on the handgun had also been defaced. Tomlinson was also in possession of 3.5 grams of crack cocaine when arrested.
Tomlinson was charged with the following:
On top of the original charges, after the arrest on Broadway, he was additionally charged with:
Tomlinson was arraigned in the Village of Monticello Justice Court before Associate Justice David Maho and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail on $200,000 cash bail, $500,000 bond, and $750,000 partially secured bond pending further court action.
The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office assisted the Monticello Police.
Monticello Police Chief David Lindsay commends today’s actions of the department.
"Both officers used their training skills and exercised only the minimal amount of force necessary to effect this arrest of this individual, who was actively resisting his arrest and in possession of a loaded firearm on his person."
The filing of an accusatory instrument is merely an accusation and every person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
