State Police arrest two Elmira men following traffic stop in Mamakating

TOWN OF MAMAKATING, NY — On October 4, 2026, at approximately 6:45 p.m., troopers from State Police Wurtsboro observed a 2025 Nissan Sentra traveling westbound on State Route 17 in the town of Mamakating in violation of multiple New York State Vehicle and Traffic Laws.

Troopers initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as Joseph T. Myers, age 27, and the front-seat passenger as Lakeem S. McFadden, age 43, both of Elmira, New York.

During the roadside investigation and subsequent search, troopers located approximately one kilogram of cocaine and approximately 365 grams of methamphetamine.

Myers was charged with:

  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 1st Degree, a class A felony
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 2nd Degree, methamphetamine, a class A felony
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree, stimulant with intent to sell, a class B felony
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree, possession of one-eighth ounce or more of methamphetamine with intent to sell, a class B felony
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, a class A misdemeanor

McFadden was charged with:

  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 1st Degree, a class A felony
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 2nd Degree, methamphetamine, a class A felony
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree, stimulant with intent to sell, a class B felony
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree, possession of one-eighth ounce or more of methamphetamine with intent to sell, a class B felony

Myers and McFadden were arrested and processed at SP Wurtsboro without incident. Both were arraigned in the Town of Mamakating Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail without bail.

They are scheduled to return to the Town of Mamakating Court on October 8, 2026, at 9:00 a.m
