BUSHKILL, PA ― Thirty agencies and service providers have registered to participate in the upcoming Elder Justice Day on Tuesday, August 25. It takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bushkill Center for Active Adults, 216 Lehman Park Road.

Elder Justice Day, organized by Pike County Area Agency on Aging, gathers professionals from across the tri-state area to deliver presentations on aging-related topics. This year’s theme is “Aging Gracefully.”

Attendees will receive information on important legal matters affecting seniors, including powers of attorney and wills. Free blood pressure screenings will also be available.

Seniors can also meet with representatives from numerous community organizations, including local home health and hospice agencies, hearing and sight services and banks, as well as nursing homes that offer assisted living, short-term rehabilitation and long-term care. Local and state representatives will also be in attendance.

The Pike County Sheriff’s Office will be present to help seniors safely dispose of unused or expired medications through its drug disposal program. Prescription and non-prescription pills, vitamins and patches, and pet medications are accepted. Unwanted medications must be placed in a resealable plastic bag. Liquids, ointments, lotions, sprays, injectables, inhalers and needles are not accepted.

All older adults are welcome to attend this free educational event, which includes a light breakfast courtesy of ARDC Link, a hot lunch and a raffle ticket for a door prize.

To register, call the Aging Office at 570/775-5550. If you require transportation, call the Pike County Transportation Department at 570/296-3408 to coordinate a ride.

Elder Justice Day is organized by the Pike County Elder Abuse Task Force. The task force was established in 2013 to educate the public on recognizing, preventing and reporting cases of elder abuse.

If you know or suspect an elderly person is being harmed, call the task force at 800/490-8505. Reports are taken 24 hours a day.
