New hotel slated for White Lake

WHITE LAKE, NY — The area has been booming since the opening of Bethel Woods in 2006, and now the Kauneonga Lake/White Lake area will see another surge in development. The Dream Hotel Group has announced it is launching a new lodging, the second of its Unscripted brand of hotels, to be called Unscripted Catskills, in White Lake. The new 100-room hotel will feature an outdoor pool house and fitness center, a restaurant and a small eatery.

The hotel will be located within a group of retail outlets called The Shops at White Lake, which, according to a press release from Dream Hotel, is scheduled to open in late 2019. Dream Hotel is also opening the Chatwal Lodge, a luxury resort to be constructed on 1,000 acres on the shores of the nearby Toronto Reservoir. That facility is expected to open in the fall of 2020 with 34 accommodations ranging from villas to tents.

The company claims the facility is for both local residents and businesses. “Through thoughtful design and regional food and beverage offerings, the public spaces are intended for both visitors and locals alike,” a press release reads. “One key design element is a monumental, double-height fireplace that unites the lobby and welcomes guests with an immediate sense of warmth. Surrounded by residential-style furnishings, the public space encourages social gathering, conversation and relaxation.”

Bethel Supervisor Dan Sturm said the project is still in the early phases and has not yet been to the planning board. Asked if he thought this project would become fully completed, he said that while he has been supervisor, a number of ambitious projects have come to the town and not all of them have panned out. He added that he thinks the developers of this project are reputable, well-financed and have a history of successes. He said the project, should it come to fruition, will be located on the property at the corner of State Route 17B and State Route 55, a property long owned by developer Steve Dubrovsky.
