The River Reporter invites young adults and adults to participate in an online workshop series: “Your News. Your Newspaper.” The six half-hour online workshops will take place on consecutive Saturday mornings at 10 a.m., beginning on October 3 and ending on November 7. The workshops will introduce topics essential to journalism and feature important newspaper contributors: reporters, editors, columnists, publishers and community volunteers. Issues impacting student journalists will be prioritized.
Workshop dates and topics include:
October 3—The news: Exploring journalism and news media
October 10—Media literacy: Thinking critically about the news
October 17—The work: Reporting and writing—what it takes
October 24—The funnies: Essays, comics, political cartoons
October 31—The Fourth Estate: Establishing a free press
November 7—News production: Moving the news back to you
Registration is required and includes a free digital subscription to the River Reporter through November 15. Those who participate in all six sessions are eligible to extend their subscription for a full year. Additionally, anyone who chooses to volunteer as a River Reporter News Ambassador or Youth News Ambassador following their participation in any number of workshops in the series will be eligible for a free one-year digital subscription.
Registrations are welcome for one, some, or all workshops in the series. To register, email social@riverreporter.com with your name, email address and the dates of the workshops you plan to attend. Registrations must be completed by midnight on the Wednesday preceding the workshop.
