I write in response to a letter in the February 12 to 18 issue of the River Reporter. He writes in support of Rob Bresnahan’s re-election because Bresnahan  “understands” this area, having grown up and worked here. His main objection to Bresnahan’s opponent, Paige Cognetti, seems to be that she did not grow up here and therefore cannot understand or represent the people who live here. 

Total rubbish. 

I did not grow up here either, but I’ve lived here since 2006. I think I understand my community well. I have friends from families that have been here for generations. The notion that only someone who grew up here can understand and represent the area is, to me, insulting.
