LIBERTY, NY — On October 19th, 2026 the Village of Liberty Police Department arrested Shamara Sterling 26, of Greenfield Park, in Brooklyn NY. Sterling was being held by the NYPD who had located her and held her on an outstanding bench warrant. The Sullivan County Court warrant had been issued by the Honorable James R. Farrell on March 5th, 2025 when Sterling failed to appear in County Court on charges including Attempted Assault to a person under the age of 7 years old, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Sterling had originally been arrested by the Village of Liberty Police Department on December 21, 2022 after responding to a report of child abuse. Officers and Detectives investigated the incident and charged Sterling with multiple offenses including Assault in the 2nd degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the 3rd degree, felonies, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Sterling was brought before the Sullivan County Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail pending further court appearance.
Criminal charges are merely allegations that a defendant has committed violations of the criminal law, and as such they are not evidence of guilt. All defendants have a presumption of innocence and are entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the burden of the State of New York to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
