WAYNE and PIKE COUNTIES, PA — It may only be May, but in under a week’s time, many of the outcomes in November’s elections may already be decided.
Municipal primaries in Pennsylvania take place on Tuesday, May 20. Many of the races on the ballot have names written in only for one political party—barring the appearance of an independent candidate, whoever wins the primary for these races will run uncontested for the general election.
Pennsylvania has a closed primary season: Republican voters can vote only for Republican candidates, and Democratic voters can only vote for Democratic candidates.
Read on for a list of the contested races in Wayne and Pike counties, as well as for more specific information about several contested races.

Wayne County
One seat is up for school director on the Forest City Regional school board, Region 1, covering Clinton Township #2. Melissa R. Erdmann and Joshua Faatz are on the ballot for the Republican primary. Erdmann is running uncontested in the Democratic primary.
Two seats are up for school director on the Wayne Highlands school board, Region 3. Contesting these seats in the Democratic primary are Robert M. Schwartz, Brendan Murray and James A. McHugh. The same three candidates are also on the Republican primary ballot. Region 3 covers the townships of Berlin, Cherry Ridge, and Oregon, Prompton Borough and Texas Township Districts 1 and 2.
In Canaan Township, Linda Davis and Leah C. Zawisky are competing for the Republican nomination for tax collector.
In Cherry Ridge Township, Jasper Bianchi and Marcus Lienert are competing for the Republican nomination for supervisor.
In Dreher Township, Edward Holewa and Rebecca Keiper are competing for the Republican nomination for supervisor.
In Dyberry Township, Dan Nebzydoski and Lynne Glinsky Goodwin are competing for the Republican nomination for tax collector.
Honesdale Borough does not have a contested borough council race on the ballot; however, borough councilor Jim Hamill has also thrown his hat in the ring for November's mayoral election. Click here for more.
In Preston Township, Suzanne W. Wormuth and Kathleen Seifried are competing for the Republican nomination for tax collector.

Pike County
Four seats are available on the Delaware Valley School District board. Jessica Adler Decker, Pam Lutfy, Joseph Kuemerle, Dorit Smith, Felicia Sheehan and Mandy Colville are competing both for the Democratic and the Republican nominations.
Four seats are available on the East Stroudsburg School District board. George C. Andrews, Steve Ertle, Wayne Rohner, Jason A. Gullstrand and Richard Schlameuss are competing for both the Democratic and Republican nominations; in addition, Shaneka Storey is competing for the Democratic nomination only.
In Delaware Township, Rick Koehler and Steven Tarquini are competing for the Republican nomination for supervisor. Yvonne Teta and Liberty Buccello are competing for the Republican nomination for tax collector.
In Dingman Township, Bob Roche and James Leiser are competing for the Republican nomination for tax collector.
In Lackawaxen Township, Michael “Mike” Mancino and Ray Fennell are competing for the Republican nomination for supervisor. Click here for more on each candidate.
Milford Borough does not have a contested seat in the primaries; however, the primary slate sets up for a contested mayoral election in November. Click here for more.
In Matamoras Borough, four seats are open for borough council. Three candidates appear on the Democratic primary ballot: Michael J. Mady, Jr., Mark J. Toussaint and Dayne Losee. Five candidates appear on the Republican primary ballot: Pamela Conklin, Jonathan Maney, Kyle Innella, John Bush Jr. and Harry Prey.
In Porter Township, William Powell and Robert O’Neill are competing for the Republican nomination for supervisor.
In Shohola Township, Juli Fuhse, Christine Buttaro and Krystal Spinetta are competing for the Republican nomination for tax collector.
In Westfall Township, two seats are open on the board of supervisors. Three candidates are competing for the Republican nomination: Peter Joannou, Paul Schaldonat and J. Bernard Swartwood III.
