Wayne County DA warns of law enforcement impersonation

Posted

WAYNE COUNTY, PA — The Wayne County District Attorney's Office received a complaint stating that a resident received a call from a 'Charlie Macky' who identified himself as a Wayne County Detective.

The subject claimed that if the resident did not respond back to him, he was going to send agents to apprehend him. He provided a call-back number of 570/393-3848. There is no such person named Charlie Macky that is a Wayne County Detective, and the telephone number does not belong to the Wayne County District Attorney's Office and is a spoofed number.

Wayne County District Attorney A.G. Howell warns residents to beware of phone calls from people reporting to be law enforcement. This is almost always a scam where the caller is trying to get money. If a legitimate law enforcement officer calls you, they will never ask for money in exchange for dismissing criminal charges.

If you happen to get a phone call like this, contact chief detective Peter Hower at 570/253-5970 ext. 2255.
