Veterans honor those who passed

TOWN OF TUSTEN, NY — Taking care of their own is what the Tusten Highland Lumberland VFW Post 6327 does. Whether it is monetary assistance, transportation, cameraderie or support for ongoing health issues, the post is there for veterans. On May 18, members of the post took their care to the Town of Tusten’s five cemeteries and placed American flags on all veteran gravesites.

Peter Carmeci, post commander, was joined by members Fred Bosch, Ed Boyer, James Flanagan, Dan Foris, Bob Grimm, Paul Letendre John Poillion,  Ron Schnider, John Von Steenburgh, and Sylvan Liebla American Legion Post 1356’s commander Pete Barnes.

The project showcased the VFW’s characteristics of brotherhood and coming together. Those who volunteered gathered to celebrate and honor those who had passed in action, but also to congregate with one another.

“Whenever there’s a problem with a veteran, they call me…we take care of it,” said Carmeci.

The VFW is currently looking for younger members to join the group and continue the legacy started by older generations.

If interested in joining the VFW or for more information, visit https://www.vfw.org/join, or email Carmeci at pcarmeci@icloud.com or call 845/707-2980.
