NARROWSBURG, NY — The Upper Delaware Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (UDUUF) has distributed $4,000 in proceeds from the 2024 Bud Rue Memorial Walk for Social Justice, held on October 27, 2024. The funds have been awarded to four organizations whose work embodies the fellowship’s commitment to social justice, compassion and community well-being, a member said.
Now in its 23rd year, the Bud Rue Fund raises money in memory of Bud Rue, an activist and educator who inspired local action for a just, equitable and sustainable community. Proceeds are donated to grassroots organizations working to make a difference in the Upper Delaware River Valley.
This year’s recipients, each awarded $1,000, are:
The organization is a coalition working to address poverty and promote equity in Sullivan County. It brings together residents and organizations to identify community needs, foster collaboration and advocate for lasting systemic change.
Based in Wayne and Pike counties in PA, VIP provides confidential support to survivors of domestic and sexual violence, including emergency shelter, crisis counseling, legal advocacy and prevention education.
GOT is a grassroots nonprofit helping older adults in the Upper Delaware region live independently and stay socially connected through a neighbor-to-neighbor support network modeled on the national “village” concept.
This local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity partners with families to build and repair safe, affordable housing, helping to strengthen neighborhoods and reduce housing insecurity in Sullivan County.
“We’re honored to support these vital organizations whose missions reflect the values of our fellowship and the legacy of Bud Rue,” said Tom Rue, vice president of the UDUUF. “Their work uplifts vulnerable neighbors in our communities and builds a more just and compassionate society.”
