River Reporter fly fishing writer Tony Bonavist has collected his River Reporter columns into a book, titled “Ramblings of a Catskill Fly Fisher.”
A biologist, now retired from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Bonavist has fish stories to tell, of course, but the science creeps in too.
The columns range from useful instruction (Are the fish ignoring your flies? Here’s what might help), to sly humor, to trenchant commentary on the state of fishing in the Catskills now. Bonavist shares his memories of fishing friends, special spots and his dog, Molly—leaving the reader with a sense of time well spent with a friend.
Even if you’ve never picked up a fishing rod or tied a fly, the stories are a moment of peace in a chaotic world. Much like fishing itself.
