The following is an open letter to Marie Therese Dominguez, commissioner, NYSDOT.
Dear Commissioner Dominguez,
We write as concerned neighbors regarding the recent renovations to the Callicoon Bridge—more specifically, the temporary wooden pedestrian path that has been installed.
While we appreciate your team’s efforts to maintain and improve this critical piece of infrastructure, the current makeshift walkway presents real safety hazards to those who must use it.
First, the surface is dangerously slippery, especially in wet conditions. Moreover, some of the plywood floorboards are already warping and curling up at the edges—a clear sign that the materials and configuration are not holding up under normal foot traffic. These boards also bounce and creak underfoot, which not only feels unsafe but also could easily cause someone to trip or lose their balance.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. We would welcome the opportunity to meet with your field team or local representatives to discuss how best to implement these suggestions.
Sincerely,
Andre Turan and other residents of Delaware Avenue
Damascus Township, PA
