Tattoo for you—in Yulan

YULAN, NY — Michele Zuffanti has spent her life in service to others. A 19-year Air Force veteran, a mother of six who provided therapeutic care for many children and adopted a few of them, is now turning to her artwork to bring joy and contentment to her customers. The medium: tattoos.

Zuffanti tells the story that she had never wanted a tattoo. However, following an accident while in the military and receiving second and third degree burns that she didn’t like the look of, she turned to tattooing to transform them into a personal story of healing.

“I want to help people tell their story, and if they have something that they are not happy about themselves, that the tattoos will hopefully give them joy,” she said.

Zuffanti has deep roots in the tri-state area as her grandfather had a house where she visited as a child. “When I was done with my military service, I wanted to come home.”

Future plans include providing space for more artists and being able to provide different styles beyond her own realist and surrealistic custom artwork.

The Greater Barryville Chamber of Commerce celebrated her new shop on 218 Airport Rd.,  next to the Yulan Country Store, on May 6.
