ALBANY, NY — In what was largely a banner night for Democrats throughout the country and throughout the Catskills, Republican Chris Tague won out over Democrat Michele Frazier for the vacant seat in the 51st New York State Senate District.

According to unofficial election-night results, Tague took 52.82% of the vote, where Frazier took 44.70%.

In an election-night statement, Tague said, "I want to thank the good people of the 51st Senate District for putting their trust and confidence in me. I’m truly humbled and grateful.

"I’m just a farm kid from Schoharie County who never forgot where he came from or who he works for.

"I’ve never backed down from a fight for the hardworking people of Upstate New York, and that’s not going to change in the State Senate.

"To my family, friends, and everyone who stood with us throughout this campaign, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

"I’m proud to be your next State Senator and as long as I have a voice in Albany, so will you," he concluded.

In a video statement posted after the election, Frazier thanked the people who voted and campaigned for her.

"It was an amazing race," she said. "And while we didn't win yesterday, America did. We took back the House and the Senate, and we showed up."
