SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — In light of potential federal funding cuts by the Trump administration, Sarita Green, associate director of Fearless!, a nonprofit that provides violence and abuse services for Sullivan County, told the legislature that the organzation is “sitting in a place with a lot of worry and concern for the victims and survivors [of] across their services area.” Ninety percent of the group’s funding is tied to federal dollars.
Fearless!’s current work to grow U.S. Housing and Urban Development funding in Sullivan County to assist homelessness and people fleeing domestic violence would be directly affected by proposed federal cuts. Green said Fearless! does this work for the county under a federal contract that is “on the line right now.”
Over the past year, Green said Fearless! has taken over 11,000 domestic abuse hotline calls. In Sullivan County, this past year, the organization has provided domestic abuse workshops and education to almost 1,000 adults and over 600 young people. In 2025, Fearless! hosted its first event with a child advocacy center in Sullivan County in an effort to provide services.
Commissioner of health and human services John Liddle said, “I’ll be circumspect at the podium because I don’t want to make people anxious about what might happen,” but “funding for domestic violence housing, that is a real impact that we are seeing across the balance of the state.”
