WAYNE COUNTY, PA — Wayne County District Attorney A.G. Howell announced on Tuesday, June 17 that several Wayne County residents have reported receiving telephone calls from someone purporting to be a Wayne County Sheriff. The caller tells the resident that they missed jury duty and that if they don’t pay $3,000.00, they will be arrested. The caller then instructs the resident to go to Walmart to put money into a Walmart account.
District Attorney Howell and Wayne County Sheriff Rosler assure all Wayne County residents that these calls are not from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department and are just a scam for the caller to get your money. Please do not go along with these calls and do not send them any money. The sheriff’s department will never call you and ask for money in exchange for not getting arrested.
Please contact your local police department or the Wayne County Detectives at 570-253-4912 if you have been the victim of this scam.
