CFOSR encourages students to apply before April 10 deadline

NEW YORK REGION — The Community Foundation of Orange, Sullivan & Rockland (CFOSR) is currently accepting scholarship applications for the 2026 cycle, with several opportunities still seeking applicants ahead of the Friday, April 10 deadline.

With awards supporting a wide range of career paths—including skilled trades, agriculture, the arts, technology, and public service—students across the region are encouraged to explore available opportunities and complete their applications through the Foundation’s online scholarship portal.

“Thanks to the generosity of our incredible donors, the Foundation is able to offer a wide range of scholarships annually which make a tremendous difference for local students and their families,” said CFOSR President and CEO Elizabeth Rowley.

Many of the scholarships are designed to support students pursuing hands-on careers, creative fields, and community-focused professions, helping to remove financial barriers and invest in the next generation of local talent. Several of the available scholarships are listed below.

Skilled Trades & Technical Careers

  • Daniel Thalmann Scholarship – $1,000 award for Sullivan County seniors entering the skilled trades. 
  • Haddon C. Pantel Memorial Scholarship – Supports Fallsburg graduates (past and present) pursuing vocational or trade education.
  • Jason H. Goldstein Memorial Scholarship – For students pursuing woodworking and related trades such as construction or cabinetry. 
  • Joshua D. Glantz Trade School Scholarship – $1,000 award for students attending trade school. 
  • Matthew R. Bertholf Scholarship – Supports Tri-Valley seniors pursuing trades or applied technology. 
  • Robert Garloch Memorial Scholarship – $1,000 award for Orange County students entering the skilled trades, with consideration for financial need.

Agriculture, Aviation & Specialized Fields

  • Earle & Elizabeth Wilde Cornell Cooperative Extension Scholarship – Two $2,000 awards for students pursuing agriculture-related studies, with preference for FFA/4-H involvement. 
  • Marius Ivascu Aviation Foundation Scholarship – Supports individuals ages 17–33 pursuing aviation education, including flight or aircraft maintenance.

Arts, Media & Creative Fields

  • Al Romm Interdisciplinary Journalism Scholarship – For high-achieving students interested in journalism, writing, and critical thinking. 
  • KGtakespics Scholarship (In Memory of Kevin C. Gordon) – Supports students pursuing photography, videography, or drone-related careers; preference for Washingtonville seniors. 
  • Lloyd F. Sweet, Sr. Music Education Scholarship – $2,000 award for students pursuing a degree in music education.

Public Service, Law & Humanities

  • SCBA / Ira Jay Cohen Scholarship – Two $750 awards for students pursuing careers in law or public service. 
  • Friends of Hill-Hold Museum Scholarship for Historical Preservation – $1,000 award for students pursuing history, archival studies, or related fields.

Technology & Innovation

  • Paul Van Doran Memorial Scholarship – $1,000 award for Orange-Ulster BOCES C-Tech students pursuing technology-related fields at the college level.

Students must first complete the Universal Scholarship Eligibility Application through the CFOSR Scholarship Portal to determine eligibility and unlock individual scholarship opportunities. With the deadline quickly approaching, students are strongly encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible to ensure full consideration.
