Schiff survives primary challenge

SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — Incumbent Sullivan County Sheriff Mike Schiff fended off a primary challenge from Tim Dymond on Tuesday, June 24. 

Schiff got 61% of the vote with 2,952 ballots cast in his favor; Dymond trailed with 39% of the vote and 1,906 ballots cast, according to the unofficial results. 

"Unfortunately, we came up short tonight in the Republican Primary for Sheriff," said Dymond. "But I respect the voters’ choice, I truly appreciate the nearly 2000 voters who cast their ballots for me and I wish the best to the brave men and women of the Sheriff’s Office."

For other races:

* Paula Moss and Cliff Manning took home Democratic nominations for Bethel Town Council, with 45% and 24% of the vote respectively. They beat out Nicole Newick and John Maniec, who earned 16% and 14% respectively. 

* Ira Steingart and Nathan Steingart won seats on the Democratic County Committee for the Town of Fallsburg, with 31% and 27% of the vote respectively. They beat out Pamela A. Krevoy-Wagner and Stanley I. Wagner, who took 22% and 20% respectively. 

* Jeff Weiner and James Ginty won seats on the Republican County Committee for the Town of Fallsburg, with 38% and 29% of the vote respectively. They beat out Joseph Perrello and Karen Perrello, who took 21% and 12% of the vote respectively. 

* Alexandra E. Vagone took home the Republican nomination for Rockland Town Justice, beating out Elwin Wood with 62% of the vote to Wood's 37%. 

All numbers according to the unofficial results as of 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, with all election districts reporting.
