MILFORD, PA — Pike County children aged 15 and under will have the opportunity to catch a variety of trout and compete for prizes at the 27th annual Commissioners Fishing Derby on Saturday, April 26 at Lily Pond on Schocopee Road. The derby will kick off at 8 a.m.—rain or shine—and run until noon. Fishing poles and tackle boxes as well as various baits, bobbers and lures will be awarded to the largest trout caught among each age group.
Each child must have their own registration signed by a parent or guardian to participate. Registration is free and can be completed online at www.pikepa.org/fishingderby. Online registration will close at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 25, but participants can still register on the day of the derby. Regardless of registration method, all participants should report to the cabin on arrival to check-in.
To ensure a fun and safe event for all, a few rules will be enforced:
PA fishing laws and regulations will apply.
Participants must be accompanied by an adult.
Participants must provide their own tackle and bait.
Participants must only use one fishing pole.
Fishing is permitted anywhere on the pond.
Each participant is allowed only one trout to be measured for the contest.
Lily Pond will be stocked with a combination of 500 brook, golden and rainbow trout, made possible by a generous donation of $5,000 from Northwell Health. Stocking will take place at 7 a.m. on derby day. Participants are welcome to help.
The Pike County Commissioners would like to thank the many local sponsors for their continued support in making this event a success. Those interested in becoming a sponsor of the derby can contact the Pike County Commissioners’ Office at 570/296-7613 for information on sponsorship opportunities.
Contributed by the Pike County Commissioners.
