Patient care, patient info and celebrations galore

HONESDALE, PA -— Wayne Memorial Hospital (WMH) recently held events highlighting what’s happening at the hospital.

The importance of health information staff

WMH honored the vital role of professionals in managing accurate, secure and accessible patient data. At the hospital, the importance of health information professionals is highly regarded in maintaining data integrity, patient privacy and enhancing quality of care.

To highlight their hard work, the medical records staff enjoyed a mid-week luncheon and received herb plants as gifts.

Medical records manager and privacy officer Stacey Goodenough noted the choice of gift was fitting, “because we’re growing!”

Wound care is critically important

The team at Wayne Memorial Hospital’s Advanced Wound Care Center understands how serious and challenging it is to treat chronic, slow-healing wounds, a hospital spokesperson said. To brighten an otherwise difficult experience, the wound care staff “always make sure to include a little fun.”

At a recent Wound Care Symposium, staff found supply vendors with products and services, and could learn many approaches vital to wound care patients.

Chronic wounds, according to the National Institutes of Health, are those that fail to heal within four to six weeks. “Wayne Memorial’s multi-disciplinary team supports the patient and family through the healing process to optimize the patients’ ability to regain mobility and independence, reduce pain and the risk for infection and improve their quality of life,” the hospital said.

Auxiliary throws ‘Studio 54’ gala

The hot spot on Saturday, April 25 was at the Wayne Memorial Hospital (WMH) Auxiliary’s Studio 54 Gala. The guests’ flashy attire and the atmosphere of the night turned the Anthracite Center in Carbondale into a 1970s dance club.

Friends, coworkers and supporters of the WMH Auxiliary were out on the town and it was all for a good cause. The proceeds, again this year, are being donated to Wayne Woodlands Manor, the health system’s long-term care facility in Waymart.

The evening included dinner and drinks, dancing, raffles and some of the most dramatic and shiny, disco era outfits.

“Thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible. It’s always a good time with a fun theme. Plan to be at next year’s gala!” an auxiliary member said.

WMCHC celebrates new grads

Jessica Vaccarino and Barbara Jones recently graduated, and both women were honored for completing the eight-month National Institute for Medical Assistant Advancement (NIMAA) training through Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers’ (WMCHC) program.

Family, coworkers from Carbondale Family Health Center and Pike Pediatric Center, program facilitator Jo-Ann Sames, RN, as well as WMCHC CEO Terri Lacey, RN, BSN, congratulated the new MAs following the virtual graduation ceremony viewed at the Hamlin Family Health Center.

WMCHC partners with NIMAA by offering externships at its primary care sites and providing a hands-on skills lab to satisfy the course curriculum. Students are employed by WMCHC during training. Those who pass the certification exam and remain employed by WMCHC for 18 months qualify for free tuition.
