SCRANTON, PA – Today, Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti is announcing she has raised more than $225K in the first 48 hours since launching her campaign for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 8th District against Republican Congressman Rob Bresnahan. In addition to her strong fundraising haul out of the gate, Paige’s launch video has racked up more than 1M views across social media platforms and polling shows her already in the lead.

“I first ran for Mayor of Scranton as an Independent because the political machine running our city was more interested in serving itself than working families. Government should work as hard as the people it serves, I believed it then and I believe it now, and it’s clear that message is resonating in this moment,” said Mayor Paige. “I’m honored to have the support of so many Northeastern Pennsylvanians who are ready to join me in once again taking on the machine. Paige first ran for Mayor as an Independent, “sparring with the Democratic machine” in an insurgent campaign that was dubbed “Paige Against The Machine.” After Paige shocked the political establishment and won, she took on the bosses in her own party to clean up City Hall and get government back to working for the people. In Scranton, Paige has shown what government can do when leaders root out corruption and work as hard as the people they are elected to serve.

Paige has made tackling corruption a core part of her mission as Mayor, and it’s a major reason why she is stepping up to run against Congressman Rob Bresnahan. As part of her anti-corruption campaign, Paige has pledged not to take corporate PAC contributions in her race for Congress. Bresnahan’s first months in office have been defined by his broken promises and prolific stock trading, and by his vote to rip away health care from thousands of our neighbors in order to fund tax cuts for billionaires.
