SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — Early voting is already underway for primary elections in New York State, with several contested races both statewide and in certain municipalities in Sullivan County.

Polls will be open on election day, Tuesday, June 23, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. across the county. The Sullivan County Board of Elections offers an interactive map to help voters find their election districts, available at www.bit.ly/RR-2026-Sullivan-election-districts.

Early voting taking place daily from Saturday, June 13 to Sunday, June 21 in the Sullivan County Government Center, 100 North St., Monticello, and in the Sullivan County Public Health building, 50 Community Lane, Liberty. Early voting will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except on Tuesday, June 16 and Thursday, June 18, when early voting will run from 12 to 8 p.m.

Democratic voters across Sullivan County will get the chance to vote in the primary election for comptroller, with incumbent Thomas P. DiNapoli facing challengers Drew Warshaw and Raj Goyle.

Republican voters across Sullivan County will have two primary races to decide, one for national office and one for statewide office.

Peter Oberacker and Alexander M. Portelli are facing off for the Republican nomination for the NY-19 district in the federal house of representatives, a district currently represented by Democrat Josh Riley. Oberacker currently represents the 51st district in the New York State Senate, a district that includes Sullivan County. He announced his campaign in the fall of 2025, emphasizing his service as a volunteer firefighter and EMT and his record as a fighter in the state senate. Portelli served in the Marine Corps and has traveled widely; he currently owns a 120-acre timber farm in Otsego County. If elected, he says he will introduce legislation to fully repeal the federal income tax for every American person and business making under $1 million a year, and replace the lost tax income with tariffs and with increased taxes on companies that profit more than $500 million per year.

With Oberacker challenging for higher office, his seat in the New York State Senate is up for grabs. Terry Bernardo and Christopher W. Tague are facing off for the Republican nomination for the seat. Bernardo served in the Ulster County Legislature from 2009 to 2012, being elected chair of the legislature during that time, and currently serves as the district nine representative in the Sullivan County Legislature. Tague currently represents district 102 in the New York State Assembly, and entered the race for the senate with Oberacker’s backing.

Several local races also have primary contests underway.

In Cochecton, Scott Goodman and Edwin Grund are running for the Republican nomination for town supervisor. They seek to replace longtime supervisor Gary Maas, who has chosen not to seek re-election. Jeffrey Daub and Kevin Esselman are facing off for the Republican nomination for superintendent of highways; Daub is the incumbent in that role.

In Forestburgh, Gillian Kaiser and William Sipos are facing off for the Republican nomination for town supervisor.
