New sculptures at the Art Garden in the Flats

NARROWSBURG, NY — Last summer, local artist and sculptor Naomi Teppich joined local writer Cass Collins—known as the River Muse for her long-running column in the River Reporter—to present a public art garden in the Flats.

Using the writer’s family property on Second Avenue, the sculptor installed her work, titled “Cactus Cocoon”—a large outdoor sculpture, 10 feet high by 7 feet long by 5 feet wide—made of steel, colored cement and ornamental paint.

The work is a commentary on global warming, and was conceived for and first shown at the Catskill Art Society in 2012, indoors. The sculpture is on view as a loan through May 1, 2024.

Since then, seven new sculptures have been installed in the Art Garden. They include “Do Not Enter Waterways” by Bibiana Huang Matheis, “Orville the Owl” by Mike Bloom, “Namaste” by Barbara Galazzo and Carole Flaitz, “untitled (2nd Tier)” by Bernard Klevickas, “Walking In A Circle” by Martin Springhetti, “Green Projector” by Joe Chirchirillo and “Regeneration” by Lisa Breznak.

Guests are welcome from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Admission is always free.

A Garden Art party is planned for Saturday, August 12 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., with a rain date of August 13, to welcome the new artists and their work. Food and drinks will be served.

The Art Garden is located at 52 Second Ave.
