BEACH LAKE, PA — Delaware Highlands Conservancy staff and community representatives recently cut the ribbon on a new exit driveway at the Van Scott Nature Reserve.
The construction project was supported by local community grant funders including the Honesdale National Bank Foundation, the Human Resources Foundation, Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau and the Wayne County Community Foundation.
The previous driveway and parking area at the reserve were too small to accommodate buses and oversized transportation vehicles. With the construction of this new, larger exit drive, the reserve can now host visiting school buses and other large groups.
The 144-acre Van Scott Nature Reserve is open to the public daily from sunrise to sunset and features three miles of walking trails through the woods, meadows, and wetlands. Trail maps are available at www.DelawareHighlands.org/vsnr.
The Delaware Highlands Conservancy’s mission is to conserve the forests, farmland, clean waters, and wildlife habitat of the Upper Delaware River region for present and future generations and to foster environmental stewardship through community engagement. For more information, call 570/226-3164 or 845/583-1010, or visit www.DelawareHighlands.org.
