It's October in the Lake Huntington area

It’s hard to believe we’ve already wrapped up September! Fall has officially arrived in Lake Huntington, NY, bringing cooler mornings, earlier sunsets and the first hints of color across the hills. Before long, our roads will be surrounded by those beautiful reds, oranges and yellows that make this time of year in the Catskills so special.

As we head into October, there’s plenty happening around town, so grab that extra layer, enjoy the changing season and take a look at what’s coming up in our community.

The Lake Huntington Presbyterian Church Ladies Aid has announced that the penny social originally scheduled for Saturday, October 17 has been cancelled. Help spread the word to friends and neighbors who may have been planning to attend.

The Cochecton Youth Commission will be holding its annual Trunk or Treat on Saturday, October 31 at 11 a.m. This fun Halloween event is open to Cochecton youth only, and sign-ups are required to participate. The youth commission is also looking for volunteers to decorate their trunks and help make the event extra special for local kids. Anyone interested in volunteering a trunk can call or text Heather at 845/796-6976.

There’s plenty of live music coming to the Arts Nest, 6692 Rte. 52 in Lake Huntington, NY this October. On Saturday, October 3, Shanna in a Dress takes the stage from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Known for her clever humor, candid songwriting and playful stage presence, Shanna blends heartfelt lyrics with guitar, piano and ukulele music.

On Saturday, October 10, Martin Gilmore performs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Gilmore brings an easy-going folk style, soulful vocals and impressive guitar work to a mix of traditional favorites and original songs.

On Sunday, October 11, Kazzrie Jaxen and Eric Baylin perform from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., combining improvisational piano, spoken-word poetry, storytelling and plenty of unexpected creative flourishes.

Rounding out the month on Thursday, October 22, Charming Disaster performs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Brooklyn-based goth-folk duo mixes dark humor, folklore, magic and the macabre with vocal harmonies, ukulele, guitar and theatrical flair. Tickets for each performance cost $20 in advance from My River Tickets (click through the performance you want to attend at www.delawarevalleyopera.org/index.php/arts-nest) or $25 at the door.

The Delaware Youth Center will welcome East Coast Professional Wrestling (ECPW) on Saturday, October 17, for an action-packed night of family-friendly entertainment. ECPW brings together the best of wrestling’s past, present and future, with plenty of excitement for fans of all ages. The night will also feature Sullivan County native JD Ink, “The Illustrated Man,” making this a special hometown showcase. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show starts at 7 p.m. Presale tickets cost $15 at www.bit.ly/4AuPAOd, and tickets will cost $20 at the door.
