MOUNTAIN DALE, NY — On October 30, 2026 officers from the Town of Fallsburg Police Department responded to a residence in Mountain Dale for a reported domestic dispute involving a handgun.

Upon arrival, a victim alleged that 60-year-old John Napolitano had threatened him with a handgun during a domestic dispute. During the investigation, police discovered a loaded Glock 17 handgun in the garage at the location and that John Napolitano did not have a permit to posses the firearm.

Following the investigation, Napolitano was taken into police custody and was charged with the felonies of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, along with the misdemeanor of menacing in the second degree. Napolitano was then arraigned in the Town of Neversink Justice Court by the Honorable Judge Gotsch and was remanded to the Sullivan County Jail. Napolitano is scheduled to appear in the Town of Fallsburg Justice Court at a later date.

Criminal charges are merely allegations that a defendant has committed violations of the criminal law, and as such they are not evidence of guilt. All defendants have a presumption of innocence and are entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the burden of the State of New York to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
