MONTICELLO, NY — Members of the Monticello Police arrested Rahiem J. Brown, Age 45, of Monticello on July 3. Brown was charged with the Felonies of Attempted Rape in the 1st degree, Unlawful Imprisonment in the 1st degree, Criminal Contempt in the 1st degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd degree. He was also charged with the misdemeanor of Menacing in the 2nd degree.

At 10:00 a.m. on July 3,  Monticello Police responded to a 911 report of a dispute in the roadway at the intersection of Broadway and Spring Street in the Village of Monticello. Officers located Brown and a 36-year-old Monticello woman at the scene. The female victim advised officers that she had an order of protection against Brown and that he had held her against her will in a residence for several hours overnight. The female victim further advised officers that Brown had attempted to sexually assault her and had also physically threatened her by placing a chainsaw against her legs, while attempting to start it. The victim was eventually able to leave the residence with Brown following after her, which resulted in a 911 call alerting Monticello Police.

Brown was arrested and arraigned in the Village of Monticello Justice Court before Judge Douglas Solomon.  Brown was remanded to the Sullivan County jail on $25,000 cash bail, $35,000 Bail Bond or $45,000 secured insurance bond pending further court action.

The filing of an accusatory instrument is merely an accusation and every person arrested is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
