HONESDALE, PA — During the Christmas season, the Professional Forest Industry Association (ProFIA) holds its “Fuel for Friends” program, helping economically stressed homeowners who heat their homes with firewood. ProFIA donates a cord of firewood to each approved recipient.

ProFIA is looking for candidates for the 2025 program.

“With the increases in prices for consumer goods, this year might be particularly difficult,” a press release states. “We are asking readers to nominate families that use wood for supplemental or primary heat and could have trouble paying for fuel to heat their home this winter. We believe that we all have talents that we can contribute to help one another in difficult times, and for ProFIA members, being part of the forest industry, donations of firewood to homeowners in need make great sense.”

ProFIA is a local organization dedicated to the proper management of the area’s forests and the education of its members, mostly local foresters, timber harvesters and sawmills, as well as the local community and lawmakers.
