LAKE ARIEL, PA — Throughout January, Lacawac Sanctuary challenges the public to take on a hiking challenge at the sanctuary in Lake Ariel and the Browning Beaver Meadow Sanctuary in Equinunk. The intent, according to a press release, is “not only connect you with the stunning beauty of our diverse trail system but also nurture your personal growth and commitment to environmental stewardship. With trails that range from easy strolls to challenging treks, there’s something for everyone! As you log your miles in our Hiking Challenge logbook—conveniently located inside the visitors center next to our detailed maps—you’ll be creating a personal record of your journey while earning entries to win amazing prizes.” The sanctuary intends to use the event to build a community of hikers, inviting participants to share their most creative photos and stories on social media with #LacawacHikeChallenge. Prizes include Lacawac merchandise and tickets to the Cocktails for Conservation event.
The prize drawing will occur on Friday, February 7. Winners will be announced on social media and will also receive an email.
Hikers are asked to adhere to the “leave no trace” principles: respecting the environment, staying on designated trails and keeping habitats safe. Keep dogs leashed and refrain from bringing alcoholic beverages, smoking, or starting fires. To register visit https://tinyurl.com/44k9rdub.
