Jeanne Petta, a longtime summer resident of Narrowsburg, NY, passed away on April 26, 2026.
Jeanne was born in her parents’ house in Floral Park, NY on May 20, 1924. She began her association with Narrowsburg at a very young age, when her parents came to Lava to visit friends.
Jeanne continued the tradition by bringing her family to Narrowsburg every summer for vacation. This led to buying a house on River Road between the Narrowsburg and Milanville bridges.
Jeanne loved spending time in Narrowsburg. She went canoeing, kayaking and hiking with friends. She volunteered at Fort Delaware and later worked with the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance. She volunteered at the Wayne County Historical Society in Honesdale, PA, and was instrumental in finding and recovering a lost Jennie Bascombe painting. When she saw a picture of the painting, she recalled seeing it hanging in a bank near her home in New York.
She also volunteered at the gift shop at the Dorflinger Glass Museum in Honesdale. It was said they always knew when Jeanne was there by the size of the day’s sales receipts.
Donations in Jeanne’s name can be made to the Wayne County Historical Society, PO Box 446, Honesdale, PA 18431.
