Jazz, chamber music at Shandelee

LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — The next two concerts in the 30th anniversary season of the Shandelee Music Festival (SMF) offer music for jazz and chamber fans.

First up, on Saturday, August 12 at 8 p.m. in the Sunset Concert Pavilion, is “An Evening of Jazz,” featuring Eliane Elias and Marc Johnson.

Elias is a multi-award-winning recording artist, singer, producer, composer and arranger in jazz and Brazilian music.

Most recently, Elias won two Grammys for her album “Mirror Mirror,” which she recorded with  the late jazz great Chick Corea.

Performing with Elias at SMF will be her husband and co-producer Marc Johnson on double bass. Johnson’s “Shades of Jade” was featured in a 2005 Time Magazine article. As a producer, he won two Grammy Awards for co-producing Elias’ albums “Made in Brazil” (2016) and “Dance of Time” (2017).

Then at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 15 at the Sunset Concert Pavilion, the Arcadia Players will present “An Evening of Chamber Music.” on Tuesday, August 15.

“The orchestra uses historically informed performance to explore repertoire from the Renaissance, Baroque and Classical eras,” according to a press release.

It is led by Andrew Arceci, who plays viola da gamba, violone and double bass. Other members are soprano Hailey Fuqua, baroque violinists Asako Takeuchi and Lisa Rautenberg, baroque violist Peter Sulski, archlute player Hideki Yamaya and theorbo player William Simms.

Tickets for “An Evening of Jazz” or “An Evening of Chamber Music” cost $35 for adults, $30 for SMF members, and $10 for students aged 17 and under. Advance reservations are requested.

The Sunset Concert Pavilion, which is handicapped-accessible and climate-controlled, is located at 442 J. Young Road.
