The human brain likes to fill in the blanks. When we don't know something, our brain goes into hyperdrive to create some sort of narrative.
Oftentimes what we conjure in our minds is not true — and hence the Dalai Lama's apt reflection that "lack of transparency results in distrust and a deep sense of insecurity."
The solution: Be more transparent and, most of all, authentically yourself. Always.
