HURLEYVILLE, NY — On October 9, 2026 Fallsburg Police responded to a residence in Hurleyville where a woman alleged that 21-year-old Jose Armando Castro had made verbal threats towards her and her son.
Following a police investigation, police were able to make contact with Jose, during which time a small engine could be heard coming from inside of his apartment. Jose Armando Castro then opened the door to his apartment while holding a hedge trimmer above his head in an aggressive manor and began revving the engine towards police.
Castro was then taken into police custody without further incident, after following police commands to put the hedge trimmer down. Castro was charged with the misdemeanors of menacing in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, endangering the welfare of a child and obstructing governmental administration in the second degree. Castro was then released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Fallsburg Justice Court at a later date.
Criminal charges are merely allegations that a defendant has committed violations of the criminal law, and as such they are not evidence of guilt. All defendants have a presumption of innocence and are entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the burden of the State of New York to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
