HONESDALE, PA — Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Honesdale on Saturday, March 28 as part of No Kings Day, a nationwide day of action against the Trump administration. Ralliers carried signs and marched along Main Street.

Speaking before the march, organizer Julie Pease emphasized the local nature of the participating crowd.

“By a show of hands, how many of you were bussed here today?” she asked. “How many of you are paid to be here today?” The crowd laughed, and did not raise its hands.

“What some folks don’t seem to understand is that we are here because we love this country,” she said.

Tannis Kowalchuk, artistic director of Farm Arts Collective, led the Singing Resistance NEPA Choir as part of the protests. The choir met regularly in advance of the day’s protests to rehearse songs of defiance and democracy.

“We choose to sing against the tyrany of inequality, cruel authoritarianism and the eroding of our democracy, economy and our humanity, and sometimes I think our sanity,” she said.

No Kings, Honesdale
