PHOENIX, AZ — Lucia Feldman of Hankins, NY graduated July 31 from the 19th class of Helios Scholars at TGen (HSTG), the internship program at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen), part of City of Hope.

Feldman also attends Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff.

HSTG brings together incoming and continuing undergraduate, graduate and medical school students for an eight-week program. Participants work alongside TGen faculty, their research teams and other professionals.

Students in the program gain hands-on experience in experimental design, data analysis, scientific communication and other functions that directly contribute to ongoing research projects, a TGen press release noted. “This collaborative model fosters mentorship and interdisciplinary teamwork, and it accelerates the development of critical research skills essential for successful scientific or medical careers.”

“For nearly two decades, this program has allowed students to explore their passion for biomedicine and gain the skills they need to succeed,” said Kristen Kaus, manager of education and outreach at TGen. A symposium at the end “acknowledges each scholar’s individual accomplishments and marks a pivotal moment in their educational and career pursuits.”

Helios Scholars at TGen is a partnership between TGen and the Helios Education Foundation. Online applications open December 15 for the summer 2026 program. For more information, visit www.tgen.org/education.
