ELDRED, NY — On June 27, 31 members of the Class of 2025 accepted diplomas as graduates of Eldred Junior Senior High School.

After the time-honored processional, salutatorian Logan Amato delivered his speech.

“When I entered that intimidating [school] building for the first time, things were different, to say the least. Now I know others may compare school with prison… but I never quite felt that way. To me, school was like a second home, and I think that is entirely thanks to the staff and faculty who work here,” Amato said. “Truly, the men and women who put forward an undying effort to provide education and safety every year for the students deserve commemoration.”

In addition to praising his teachers, principal Michael Conklin, superintendent Traci Ferreira and other school staff, as well as friends and family, Amato credited his classmates. He called on them to “hold the kindness l know is within each of you. Make good choices and be good people.”

Thirty-nine scholarships, certificates of merit and other awards were bestowed on the students.

The new graduates’ future plans range from work to college to the military.

Valedictorian Connor White talked about the different measures of success and the importance of support.

“Success is a term that we often give a very objective definition despite its naturally subjective nature,” he said. “In my opinion, success is simply what will bring us fulfillment and satisfaction in our lives. It could be anything. Some of us will find fulfillment in abundant quality time with our families, while others may embark on solo adventures with nothing but a backpack and a few dollars to their name.”

“Achieving success is not a solitary journey; it requires the encouragement and help of family, friends and mentors,” he continued. “When we have support, we can do far more than if we were alone. Today’s graduation ceremony is a reminder.”

White thanked families and the school for what was given to Eldred’s students.

“As we leave our high school years behind, it is important to remember that no matter the size of our individual efforts, we can all contribute in a positive way to our world,” he said.
