Editor's letter: Springing to life

Posted

Welcome, spring! It’s been a long winter, and cold, and we all might be taking a little while to shake off the last of our winter lethargy. But there’s no better time for an issue of Our Country Home, informing and inspiring you to experience all that living in the beautiful Upper Delaware has to offer.

This issue’s features start with a look at journalist Jan Goodwin’s Beach Lake home. Eighteen years ago, we profiled her summer home in Milanville; we’re returning to close the loop on the place she made her permanent home, as she prepares to leave it. From there, Rita Catinella Orrell takes readers to The Old Foundation, a Kenoza Lake restaurant that’s cultivatying an old-school vibe. We return from there to Wayne County, for David Landis to walk us through the construction of his personal home, a quiet, matte-black structure he’s termed Stealth House.

We’ve also included in this issue a series of practical guides to help you get the most out of this beautiful region we all call home. Looking to start on some spring renovations, or expand your cullinary pallette? We’ve got you covered—or, rather, you’ve got you covered, with recommendations sourced from the River Reporter’s annual “Best Of” readers’ choice awards. We’ve also got a too-early look at the farmers markets that will be returning to the great outdoors this spring, and a recommendation from Penn State Extension for an informative session about the way the natural world adapts to the changing season.

Here’s to life in the country!
