It’s getting towards the end of summer here in the Upper Delaware—got your sweaters out, yet?
In this stage of the year, past the pool parties and the first flush of the summer’s social calendar, you may be hoping for life to start to slow down, just a little bit. If so, this section is for you, offering a little peace and quiet away from the heat of the year.
The first half of this magazine looks at the history and the art that’s on offer in the Upper Delaware. Rita Catinella Orrell takes you into Surface and Shape, a new vintage shop that’s opened in Barryville, NY. From there, you’ll go to Bethel Woods, where Patrick Kelly walks you through an exhibit from famed photographer Lisa Law. A hop, skip and a jump across the river, Sonia Ahmed shows off some of the studios where the artists of Wayne County do their work.
In the back half of the magazine, we’ll look a little more at the nature that surrounds us here in the Upper Delaware. Sandra H. Shichtman talks with the Sullivan County SCVA about the menagerie of creatures one may consider adopting for their abode. Over in the Poconos, Madeleine Barry visits the Paradise Lavender Farm, a place that more than lives up to its name. And Maria Grimaldi rounds us out with a discussion on permaculture design principles, and how you can start thinking about a more natural approach to gardening around your home.
It’s a beautiful world out there in the Upper Delaware—get out and enjoy it!
