Doris P. Costello of Jeffersonville, NY, a homemaker and a long-time area resident, died Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at her home. She was 85.
The daughter of the late Henry Washington and Alma Schwalm Hoffmann, she was born January 19, 1939 in Queens, NY.
Doris had been a member of many organizations, including Jeffersonville Enhances More of Sullivan County (JEMS), Jeffersonville Lions Club, Jeffersonville Library, RSVP Senior Program and the Heart-A-Thon.
She donated time and money to The Kingfisher Project, the Sullivan Renaissance Beautification Program, the Sullivan West Joint Task Force, the SYDA Foundation, and many 4-H Clubs and Scout programs. She was a proud supporter of Veterans and children, and her dedication to the community will be missed.
Doris met Jack Costello on a blind date on Memorial Day Weekend and married him a few months later on Sunday, January 25, 1981. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Survivors include her husband and partner in crime, John M. “Jack” Costello, at home; her children: Jean Kennedy and her husband Tom, John Borrello and his wife Mary, Karen Waldman and her husband Adam, and Laurie Donovan and her husband Shane; her brothers: Howard Hoffmann, Ken Hoffmann and his wife Martha, and George Hoffmann; two sisters-in-law: Lorraine Hoffmann and Maryann Hoffmann; her grandchildren: Richard Albano, Alicia (Pete) Conte, Theresa (Kevin) Fedyszyn, Anthony Albano, Michael (Jenny) Borrello, Steven (Alicia) Borrello, Kimberly (Joe) Martucci, Zack Waldman, Samantha Waldman, Justine Donovan, Liam Donovan and Mia Donovan; and great-grandchildren: Ava Conte, Aria Conte, Amelia Conte, Rosario Borrello, Asher Borrello and Kevin Fedyszyn. She was predeceased by her first husband, Ralph Borrello.
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 16 from 12 noon to 2:30 p.m. in the Harris Funeral Home, West Street at Buckley, Liberty, NY. Funeral services will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions in Doris’ name can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105 or to a charity of one’s choice.
