The words “need” and “want” are not the same. I may want a Corvette, but do I need a Corvette? The answer will depend on my financial resources, and if they are substantial, then I can certainly purchase it. However, if my resources are limited, I may have to settle for a Chevy Vega.
This situation is what the Highland Town Board is facing regarding constables. We want them, but do we need them? The question must be answered.
I have heard many statements of want, but no clear explanation of why we need them.
The town board must discuss and question the need for constables, not the wants of the town, understanding that the town voted for the referendum.
However, the financial responsibility was never addressed by the referendum, and now the town board has to do due diligence to determine the financial costs to the town—not just the establishment of the department, but the anticipated costs going forward. Only then can they determine if we should purchase the “Corvette.”
Thank you for your kind attention to this matter.

Not the correct analogy. It's whether we want to purchase a car or rely on Uber.
