SCRANTON, PA — The Wright Center for Community Health will host a Caregivers Resource Fair from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, offering family members and caregivers of individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia “a supportive, welcoming space to connect with local resources and learn practical skills,” organizers said.
The event will also feature a live cooking demonstration presented by Marywood University’s nutrition and dietetics program.
The free event, open to the public, will be held in the auditorium at The Wright Center for Community Health Scranton, 501 S. Washington Ave.
Katie Tullio, a registered dietitian and an assistant professor at Marywood University, along with several members of the university’s Student Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, will lead the cooking demonstration and share guidance on nutrition for older adults.
“Individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia often face nutrition-related challenges, such as decreased appetite, difficulty chewing or swallowing, and forgetting to eat,” said Nicole Flynn, a director of the geriatrics service line at The Wright Center for Community Health. The demonstration “will offer helpful information and demonstrate simple, easy-to-prepare meals to support caregivers in meeting their loved ones’ nutritional needs.”
The fair will also include Lackawanna County Area on Aging, Telespond Senior Services, Meals on Wheels and more, who will provide information about local programs and services available to support caregivers and older adults.
The Wright Center is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2026. Founded in 1976, the center is described as a physician-led, community-owned nonprofit, employing more than 665 professionals—including nearly 200 resident and fellow physicians—and trains more than 200 interprofessional health care staff each year.
