Devoted readers of “River Talk”—please consider this your cordial invitation to join two wonderful local authors, Doug Bill and John Harvey, and me for an event that is sure to inspire and intrigue fans of the natural world and its healing force: “Seeing the Forest Through the Trees: Finding Deeper Meaning in Nature.”
On Sunday, September 22 from 1 to 3 p.m., I will have the pleasure of moderating a discussion featuring Bill and Harvey as they share their work and the insights gained from the experiences that led to the writing of their compelling books.
Harvey’s year-long commitment to spending an hour per week in the same forested “sit spot” in Wayne County, PA while attuning his senses to his surroundings led to the illuminating accounts shared in his book, “The Stillness of the Living Forest: A Year of Listening and Learning.”
Bill’s book, “Living the Namaste Principle,” explores his ongoing quest to “awaken, access and embody the awareness of the divinity within,” and can be traced to deeply moving experiences that awakened him to the oneness of all life while traveling to India and Nepal in the early 1970s.
Both authors have backgrounds in psychology and a deep appreciation for the natural world and its capacity to heal. Following the discussion, the men will lead an optional field excursion including a brief sensory-based meditative experience and a wander-walk to awaken awareness of natural wonders like those depicted in the photos in this column.
The free event will take place on the grounds of the Grey Towers National Historic Site in Milford, PA as part of the Milford Readers & Writers Festival. Pre-registration is encouraged to help with seating and light refreshments (call 570/296-9630 or visit www.greytowers.org).
