MILFORD, PA —  Pike County is growing, and with new neighbors come new ideas about what it means to build a life, raise a family, and educate children in Northeast Pennsylvania.

As families settle into the region from New York, New Jersey and surrounding communities, questions about educational opportunities take on new relevance. For some parents, finding the right fit means looking beyond the conventional classroom. For others, it means finding support and community while continuing to homeschool.

At Ascend Academy Milford, both paths are welcome. Ascend Academy, which serves children ages 5 through 15 and beyond, offers full-time and part-time educational options designed to meet families where they are.

On Thursday, November 5, Ascend will open its doors to the community, inviting parents and children to explore an approach to education that emphasizes curiosity, independence, meaningful relationships and personal growth.

For generations, education has largely followed a familiar model: children grouped by age, moving through a standardized curriculum at a common pace. But children don't all learn the same way, and increasingly, families are interested in exploring what else is possible. At Ascend, learning is designed to be a more active, individualized experience. Children work toward personal academic goals, participate in Socratic discussions that develop critical thinking, and engage in hands-on projects that connect learning to the world around them. Mixed-age learning environments encourage collaboration and mentorship, while an emphasis on character development, personal responsibility, and biblical values helps nurture the whole child.

The goal is not simply academic achievement, but helping children become capable, curious, confident individuals who take ownership of their learning journey.

For families already homeschooling, finding meaningful opportunities for community, collaboration and enrichment can be challenging. For others, a traditional school setting may not provide the individualized attention or educational environment their child needs. Ascend's flexible enrollment options aim to bridge that gap. With both full-time and part-time opportunities, the academy welcomes families seeking a complete alternative educational experience as well as those looking to complement their existing homeschool journey. It's an approach that recognizes education doesn't have to look the same for every child or every family.

Ascend Academy Milford's upcoming Open House offers local families an opportunity to see this educational philosophy in action. Visitors can tour the learning environments, meet the adults who support students each day, learn more about the academy's approach, and explore whether its educational model aligns with their family's needs and values. Parents who are curious about alternatives to conventional schooling, as well as established homeschool families looking for additional support and community, are encouraged to attend.
