Glen Wild brothers arrested

On Thursday July 19th, 2018, the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office received a report of an assault and robbery that had occurred the night before around 9:00 PM in the Glen Wild section of the Town of Fallsburg. It was reported that a subject was giving two men a ride home in his car when a dispute ensued. The two men beat the driver and stole $20.00 dollars cash from him. The victim's was initially treated at Catsklill Regional Medical Center and then transferred to Orange Regional Medical Center. Sheriff's Detectives quickly identified the perpetrators as brothers Steven Schmitz, 24, and Sheldon Schmitz, age 19, both of Glen Wild, NY. Both brothers went into hiding shortly after the crime making it difficult for Deputies to apprehend them.

On Tuesday July 24th 2018, at approximately 12:30 PM, a Sheriff's Detective spotted Steven Schmitz coming out of a convenience store in Swan Lake. He was taken into custody without incident. He was arraigned before Judge Miller and sent to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.

On Wednesday July 25, 2018 at about 9:00 PM an officer with the Village of Liberty Police Department spotted Sheldon Schmitz walking down the sidewalk on Main Street. When ordered to stop, Sheldon Schmitz took off running. He was eventually apprehended by the Liberty Police and turned over to the Sheriff's Office. The suspect was arraigned before Fallsburg Judge Amanda Ward and sent to the Sullivan County Jail on $50,000 bail.
