LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — An exhibition titled “Streams—Art in Motion” opens at Morgan Outdoors, 46 Main St., on Saturday, August 4, with an opening reception from 1 to 3 p.m., highlighting the many wonders of the upper Delaware River watershed. An eight-by-eight-foot mural by local artist Robyn Almquist illustrates the Delaware River’s journey from the headwaters to the Atlantic Ocean, highlighting two key tributaries in our backyard, Willowemoc Creek and the Beaverkill. It is interactive, making it fun and memorable for all ages.

Sculptures by Naomi Teppich will bring the biota of the river and tributaries into the exhibition room. Organic wood slabs with mounted ceramic lichen pieces will hang above cast cement mushrooms installed along the floor.

Over the course of the exhibit a number of events are planned; a full calendar of events will be available on August 4. Teppich will lead two outings along tributaries in the Livingston Manor area and discuss her inspiration from the natural beauty of these environments to create her sculpture, and two “Local Topo” workshops are planned, one for children and one for adults. They will combine outdoor and indoor activities to teach the basics of topography and map-reading, a lost art that is not only tremendously useful but lots of fun. Public presentations are planned that will feature treasures of the headwaters: the walks and writings of John Burroughs, artists who fished the Catskills, and a look at a special first-growth forest.

This project is made possible in part with funding from a Sullivan County Arts and Heritage grant, funded by the Sullivan County Legislature and administered by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance. For more information visit www.morgan-outdoors.com.
