Suffern, NY man arrested for possession of drugs and attempting to allude Sheriff's Deputies after being stopped for swerving while driving

Sheriff’s Patrol stopped Vincent J. Leone, 30, of Suffern, NY Sunday May 29, 2011 on State Route 17B in the Town of Bethel because the rental vehicle he was driving swerved.

Leone was arrested for Driving While Ability Impaired by drugs and found to be in possession of a large quantity of narcotic pills and several hypodermic needles.

He was taken to the Sheriff’s Patrol Office in Monticello to be finger printed. But at 6:15 PM, while waiting to be processed, Leone dove out of a first floor window and ran towards Bank Street, alluding deputies. He was found in the basement door to 11 Bank Street. When in the building, Leone dressed himself in some clothes and when a lawyer, who has an office in the building confronted him, Leone claimed to be repairing the ventilation system. Leone was asked to leave because the lawyer did not believe him.

After leaving the building, Leone stole the attorney’s 2007 Lexus, which was running in the driveway and went eastbound on State Route 17. Deputies chased him to exist 113 in Wurtsboro. When he exited 113 he went south of Route 209 and eventually ran off the road. A deputy caught Leone as he tried to flee.

In addition to the drug charges and D.W.A.I., Leone was charged with the felonies of escape, burglary and grand larceny, as well as various Vehicle and Traffic Offenses. He was arranged before County Court Judge Michael McGuire and sent to the Sullivan County Jail without bail.

It is being investigated as to how Leone was able to dive out the window of the Patrol Office by the Sheriff’s Internal Affairs Unit.
