Heroin bust in Hawley

Janine Edwards, Wayne County District Attorney, announced today that David Miller, age 33, of Hawley, Pennsylvania and Paul Hirsch, age 49, of Hawley, Pennsylvania were both charged and arrested for selling heroin in Hawley Borough and Paupack Township.

Miller is charged with Delivery of Heroin, a felony, and other related drug charges. Hirsch is charged with Conspiracy to Deliver a Controlled Substance, Heroin, also a felony. Miller appeared at Central Court August 7, 2013 and waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

Hirsch was arraigned on August 8, 2013 by Magisterial District Judge Ted Mikulak and bail was set at $30,000.00. The charges against Miller and Hirsch were filed by Pennsylvania State Police Vice Unit and the investigation into the drug sales was performed in conjunction with the Wayne County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force.

It is alleged in these complaints that on December 7, 2012, a confidential informant (CI) working with undercover law enforcement officers went to the Sunoco Gas Station in Hawley where he met Miller inside. The CI purchased nine (9) bags of Heroin from Miller.

The CI requested more Heroin from Miller and Miller advised that he had ten (10) more bags at his apartment and he would go get them and then meet the CI at the Lake Region IGA parking lot.

The CI was taken by undercover law enforcement to Lake Region IGA parking lot and in approximately ten minutes Miller arrived again. The CI went into Miller’s vehicle and purchased the additional ten (10) bags of Heroin. On December 7, 2012 when the two Heroin sales to the CI occurred, Hirsch was the driver of the vehicle that Miller was in.

District Attorney Edwards stated, “Drug dealers target all areas of our county. The Hawley Borough has been an area under investigation for Heroin use and sales for a long time. This is an excellent example of what will be a continued vigorous effort to arrest and prosecute those that sell drugs. Heroin is greatly affecting our communities and requires relentless investigation and prosecution which the Wayne County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force is willing to pursue.”

Miller posted bail and Hirsch remains incarcerated at the Wayne County Correctional Facility. Hirsch is next scheduled to appear at Central Court on August 14, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. at the Wayne County Courthouse.
