Runaway Train’s journey begins with grand opening celebrations

HONESDALE, PA — The D&H Brewing Company has announced its grand opening events for August to celebrate the debut of the brand-new Runaway Train Brewery.

It begins the weekend of August 11 with “Mystery Train Night,” featuring a live performance by the Village Idiots, a Grateful Dead tribute band. On Saturday, August 19, it’s a Runaway Train “Journey,” featuring the Idol Kings, a Journey tribute band.

Finally, on Friday, August 25, it’s the “Last Train to Honesdale,” with Steppin Eddy.

“We’ve spent many months preparing for this moment,” said Vince Benedetto, president of Bold Gold Media. “The entire team behind the Runaway Train has worked very hard to bring something unique to the downtown. We’ve created something modern that is based on Honesdale’s iconic railroad history. We’re excited to have our customers join us on this journey.”

The Runaway Train will debut with three new craft brews, with many more on the way. Over the coming weeks and months, Runaway Train will be introducing an assortment of beers in various styles including IPAs, pilsners, lagers, stouts and ales, as well as seasonal beers. All are brewed by master brewer Charles Mills.

“In design, we aimed at opening up the space to maximize the view of the brewhouse while modernizing the industrial footprint with a warmer contemporary feel. The food concept is casual and comfortable gastropub fare made from scratch with locally sourced producers,” said Justin Genzlinger of Settlers Hospitality.

Guests are invited to tour the brand-new brewery, learn about the art of making beer, and try some of the new brews.

The Runaway Train is located at the site of the former Irving Cliff Brewery, at 2 Chapel St. Hours are Wednesdays and Thursdays, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Fridays, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturdays, 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sundays,  11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
