Muriel Ruth (Rennard) Kerr lived for 101-plus years and was a blessing to all. Muriel passed away peacefully on March 12, 2024, with family by her side.

She was a resident of Westminster Canterbury in Richmond, VA, for the past 10 years. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents and siblings. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Kerr, and by her daughter, Marcia R. Dougherty.

Muriel has a daughter, Lois E. Caliendo (Gabriel); son David C. Kerr (Mary Ann); daughter Kristie L. Richards (William) and son-in-law, James R. Dougherty (Irene).

Muriel loved and nurtured her nine grandchildren and their families as well as her many nieces and nephews and their families. Muriel’s grandchildren include Gia G. Caliendo, Carli G. Spencer (Timothy), Justin D. Kerr (Kelly), C. Lucas Kerr (Amber), John A. Kerr (Amy), Ryan J. Dougherty (Courtney), Eric W. Dougherty (Kristy), Kerrissa L. MacPherson (Adam) and Evans E. Richards (Rachael). Muriel was also the proud Great-Grandmother of many!

Muriel was born in Jersey City, NJ in 1922, grew up in Point Pleasant, NJ and raised her children in Stony Brook, NY; Wheaton, IL; Pine Beach, NJ; and Barryville, NY. Muriel was always active in her local church over the years and shared her gift of hospitality with the many visitors to her home and kitchen table. While at Westminster Canterbury, Muriel served on the flower committee, enjoyed her pottery classes, made friends with employees and residents of WC and was the prayer leader for her dining room mates.

Muriel’s smile, sense of humor and endearing personality will be missed by us all. Muriel is with her Savior now, Jesus Christ, and has felt His deep love for her since the age of eight.

Memorial contributions in Muriel’s name can be made to Gideon International, Middletown, PA; or to Pacific Garden Mission, Chicago, IL.

Muriel will be buried at the Montoza Cemetery in Barryville with arrangements made by Harrison-Rasmussen Funeral Home, Barryville.

In her honor, we will hold a memorial service this summer.

We love you, Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, Aunt Muriel, Muriel!
